Free Parking on the Pacific Coast

A few hours west of the Seattle area, we took advantage of free casino parking at the Quinalt Casino, overlooking the sunset coast. This was our first real casino parking lot stay, besides our very quick 1-nighter at the casino in Niagara Falls.

While we were somewhat surprised by the shear number of neighbors we had to share this parking lot with, we were not at all surprised that so many RV’ers would want to be taking advantage of this amazing ocean camping for the grand total of $0/night. While we were in our home state of Washington, we really wanted to try to find free or very cheap camping options as much as possible, both to stretch us in the exercise of boondocking, but also to save some money. From the drama-filled campground near Spokane to the dusty hunters camp in Winthrop to the crowded casino lot on the ocean, we gained new experience in conserving water, electricity, and heat, plus gained new confidence in our own flexibility. All of these campgrounds had something different to offer, and none disappointed.

The girls and I enjoyed a couple of windy afternoons at the beach. Cars are allowed to drive across the sand, so it was an odd thing to keep warning them to “watch for cars” as they played. We also helped push a car out of the sand twice.
The boardwalk behind the casino led to beautiful sunsets. (Just look both ways before crossing the beach.)
